Profile
Hi, I’m Fabio. I have a PhD in Physics from the University of Pisa and a background in industrial engineering. Right now I’m a process engineer at Saint-Gobain, near Milan (Italy).
I’ve been dealing with fiber fabrication for a while now: currently from an industrial point of view, producing glass wool for thermal and acoustic insulation panels, and before that during my PhD, working with polymer fibers made by electrospinning, melt electrowriting, and more conventional 3D printing methods. To put the PhD part simply: I made (or tried to make) substrates with micro- and/or nano-features out of proteins or polymer fibers; stuff that can help us better understand or interact with biological systems (and not only that).
I’ve been lucky enough to work in both industrial and academic environments. Besides the technical skills I’ve gained in each field, I’d say these experiences mostly taught me how to frame a problem properly (academic side), and how, or even whether, to find the most efficient solution (industrial side). When I’m not working, you’ll probably find me at crossfit or out running.
